The Alhambra Theatre in Jacksonville, Florida recently combined forces with the well known Charity, Locks of Love to stage the musical production – Hairspray.
Locks of Love is a non profit making organisation that literally donates hair pieces to those who need them as result of hair loss. The recipients are normally disadvantaged children suffering long term medical problems or are in need of chemotherapy for cancer.
Hairspray tells the story of teenager Tracy Turnblad and her best friend Penny Pingleton who audition for a show. However Amber Van Tussle and her mother plot to destroy Tracy.
Speaking with local reporters, the Alhambra’ managing partner Craig Smith said: “Tying in with Locks of Love is a great fit because their entire mission is to help kids to be self-confident while they’re fighting their illnesses. We hope the entire community, whether seeing the show or not, will come out to donate hair or just a small cash donation on the 13th of March”
He added: “And we’re grateful to Brumos for their support of what we’re trying to accomplish and of their overall support of the Jacksonville Community.”
While artificial wigs can help people suffering from alopecia, Locks of Love believe that using real human hair can make a big difference to people.
