Cosmetic or plastic surgery is a growing industry, with celebrities often taking the lead. Los Angeles is generally referred to as the plastic surgery capital of the world with glamour, good looks and perpetual youth being the main goals of the Hollywood elite.

However, a growing number of well-known personalities are baulking at the idea of going under the knife. One in particular is the famous model, Heidi Klum.

Klum, who is now 40, admitted recently in an interview that she has never had any cosmetic surgery, not necessarily because she was against it but simply because the procedures scare her.

She told the interviewer that she was fearful of changing so dramatically that eventually when she looked into the mirror she would feel like someone else, an unnerving prospect.

Heidi isn’t the only celebrity to feel the same way. Another well known model, Alessandra Ambrosio also told reporters recently that she would never have any work done after a bad experience when she was younger.

When she was 11, Ms Ambrosio had her ears pinned back, but has never felt comfortable since.

Alessandra had always wanted to be a model from a very young age, so thought minor cosmetic surgery could help. In reality, it didn’t necessarily work out like that.

She told reporters that she always wanted to be a model and so had surgery with an inexperienced surgeon in Brazil.

However, the operation was not particularly successful. Alessandra added that it felt as though she had her ears cut off and that she had to revisit the surgeon for repeat procedures.

The experience left her so traumatised that she won’t even get the damage done to her ears repaired.

In the intervening 20 years since Ms Ambrosio had surgery, procedures have improved tremendously. However, a poor experience can leave psychological scars which can last a very long time.
