Q29. What is a tubal ligation?

A29. This is the name given to a form of female sterilisation. Often known as ‘getting your tubes tied’, it involves the surgeon clipping and therefore tying off a woman’s Fallopian tubes to prevent fertilisation.

There is the option of a reversal with this as well as for a vasectomy but it is a complex procedure with no guarantee of success.

A vasectomy is simpler, cheaper and more effective than a tubal ligation.
