The Cost of a Vasectomy : A guide to Vasectomy
Vasectomy surgery is available on the NHS but there are waiting lists. However the length of these waiting lists varies according to what part of the country you live in.
If you don’t want to wait then there is the option of paying for private treatment. The main advantage of this is that you will have a shorter wait for surgery but you will have to pay for this.
How much does a vasectomy cost?
A vasectomy can cost between £300 and £1,000, and vasectomy reversal even more.
A private clinic will provide you with a quote for your treatment which should feature a breakdown of what it includes, for example the anaesthetist’s fees or medication.
Something to consider
What happens if there are complications? These are rare but nevertheless, they do happen and it is something to consider before you make your decision.
If you are looking to go private then you will find that many surgeons will perform a repeat procedure if the first one fails and for no extra cost. But some surgeons may not include this in the price so you need to check this with him/her.
Also, if they do offer a free repeat procedure then check to see if there is a time limit on this. In other words, if your partner falls pregnant, 5 months later after your surgery, will your surgeon perform a repeat procedure for free?
Your next decision is whether to have a vasectomy on the NHS or done privately.
