Relaxation Methods
There are many ways you can try to relax in order to get a good night’s sleep, as described below:
Massage
Relaxing massages can aid in relieving tense muscles and anxiety, as you are more likely to get better sleep if you are relaxed. You can always try visiting a professional massage therapist or alternatively get your partner to give you a massage. Massage oils such as lavender contain soothing properties that can make you more relaxed.
Yoga
Gentle exercises such as yoga can relax your body and put you in a calm frame of mind. Yoga works effectively to distress your body and has the added benefits of keeping you fit and healthy. There are many specialised yoga classes designed for pregnant women, and it is worth visiting one. After exercise you may feel more tired and you may be able to get a better night’s sleep.
Breathing Techniques
You may like to practice breathing techniques. Slowly breathing in and out can aid in making you feel tired and relaxed. It is best to practice relaxation breathing techniques when you are lying down in bed, as you can more easily monitor your breathing. Gently inhaling and exhaling can promote relaxation and leave your mind and body at ease.
Relaxing Music
There are specialised relaxation music tapes that you can get to put you in a drowsy mood. Relaxing music is often mellow and subtle and aims to help you relax and sleep better. It is best to close your eyes and lay down on the bed in order to feel the benefits while listening to the music. You can buy relaxation music tapes or nature sounds on the internet, or you could alternatively download them onto a CD from your computer.
