Transporting newborns by car
When driving in a car and transporting a newborn, parents have the responsibility to keep their baby safe. There are car safety seats designed for newborns and baby's as they develop. Choosing the right seat depends on the baby's size and the kind of car used for transport. For newborns, infant and rear-facing convertible seats are available. Car manufacturers provide guidelines for use. Rear-facing convertible seats are usually used up until the baby is one year old and about 20 pounds in weight.
When to cycle with babies
Some baby strollers have bicycle-type technology, or some parents choose to use bike trailers. Again, a lot of thought and care should be used when deciding to take a newborn baby out cycling. It is not advisable to do so with newborns. Considerations such as vehicle safety on the road and exposure to fumes make this a more dangerous option that transporting a newborn in a car where they are better protected. Waiting until the baby is older and better able to control their bodies and senses is recommended.
