Out and about
Of course parents do not want to stay indoors all the time with their newborn, and many parents also look forward to seeing how their newborn responds in different environments.
There is nothing wrong in taking a baby out, but always remember that a baby's senses can be easily over-stimulated causing them to feel overwhelmed both physically and emotionally. Care should be taken not to over stress the newborn, especially in its initial stages of development.
There are a number of environmental considerations when taking a baby out, such as exposure to fumes, mold, pesticides and pollution. Availability of clean drinking water is also a consideration. A baby should not be breathing in second hand smoke that can damage their developing lungs.
Ensuring you have the right clothing and articles for nappy changing, that you know where the nearest medical clinic is to where you are going, and knowledge of the environment that you will be in is important so that you can cope with your newborn when out and give the proper care that is needed.
