Health and Safety

Obviously most of the same aspects of health and safety apply at home as on holiday, but if you are going somewhere hot there are other things to consider. Make sure if you hire a car you have taken shades for the car windows, and that you secure the car seat properly. Never put the baby in a seat equipped with an air bag, and ideally buy a rear-facing car seat. Sun protection is obviously an essential. Babies under six months should be kept in the shade, but should still wear factor 20 sun cream. Babies between six months and a year should have limited exposure, particularly between 11am and 3pm.

On snow based holidays, you should keep your baby indoors whenever possible. Most ski resorts provide a nanny service or nursery. You still need to put sun cream on your baby, and also dress them warmly in a snowsuit with a hood, mittens and a hat. If possible, get a hat with earmuffs as it is essential to keep the baby’s head warm. Also be aware when you take your baby out that there may be skiers or snowboarders out who are careless or inexperienced and may crash into your baby if you are not careful.

If you fly to your destination, try to feed your baby at take off and landing to reduce any ear pain they may experience.
