Dealing with travel sickness
Some children suffer with travel sickness but most children are fine; if your child has travel sickness, here are some tips that may help:
- Try to keep the car cool and open the windows
- Try not to give your child lots of food before the journey
- Cover the windows with sun blinds to protect your child from the glare of the sun and encourage them to look forwards rather than sideways (this can make symptoms worse)
- Avoid strong smelling foods or odours in the car (do not smoke, for example)
- Be prepared if your child does vomit; take plenty of plastic bags and cover their knees with a towel.
If your child is over 2 they can take medication to ease their symptoms; you should ask your GP or pharmacist for advice and make sure you take plenty of medication with you.
