Other tips for losing baby weight
As well as exercising and eating sensible, there are other steps you can take which may make it easier to lose weight, these include:
- Get plenty of rest: if you rest well you will have more energy to look after your baby and do physical exercise; regular sleep is also important for general physical and mental health.
- Drink plenty of water: drinking water has a range of health benefits and it doesn’t add any calories to your daily intake (beware of juices, fizzy drinks and milky hot drinks, as they can contain a lot of calories)
- Get involved in looking after your baby; once your baby starts to grow and develop, get involved in playing with them, move around after them, take them out for walks and start to involve them in family activities.
- Don’t rush yourself: putting pressure on yourself may prove counter-productive so take it slowly.
- Choose exercises and activities that are fun so you don’t feel like you’re exercising; not everybody loves the gym so try new sports or go for a swim or a leisurely bike ride instead.
- Get together with friends: most women make friends at antenatal classes or know people who have had a baby at a similar time to them so get together and exercise; this will be much more fun than doing it on your own and it will give you an opportunity to spend time with friends.
- Learn to take compliments and be positive about your appearance: don’t get down on yourself because you’ve put on a few pounds; it’s completely normal and it is much safer to lose weight gradually.
- Adapt for life: eating healthily and exercising on a regular basis will boost your general health and set a good example for your friends, family and your newborn baby.
