Nursing bras
Why do I need a nursing bra?
Nursing bras are very useful for mothers who have decided to breastfeed their babies; they are much easier to undo and make feeding much less stressful. You will probably need at least three nursing bras, as you will need to wash them on a regular basis; your breasts are constantly producing milk and you will find that they leak slightly, even when you are wearing breast pads. Most women who breast-fed their babies consider nursing bras an essential item.
Types of nursing bra
The whole point of a nursing bra is that you can undo it without having to stretch behind your back and take the whole thing off. Nursing bras come in lots of different shapes, sizes and styles now and you can bras which unfasten in a variety of different ways; some have a zip down the front of the bra, between the breasts, some have zips under the cups, some have fastenings on the shoulders, which drop to free the breast and some are stretchy enough to pull over your head. It is up to you which type of bra you choose; you may find it beneficial to try a few different styles on and see which one you like best.
Nowadays, there are more designs and styles than ever before; most people associate nursing bras with boring, plain designs but now there all sorts of different styles and many have matching knickers.
Where can I get a nursing bra from?
There are now many shops which stock nursing bras and several online retailers; simply typing nursing bra into a search engine will provide you with a whole host of different websites that sell nursing bras and several high street shops and department stores also have a good range.
How do the sizes work?
Most nursing bras come in general sizes, rather than back measurements and cup sizes and you will probably have a choice of medium, large or firm support; it’s best to try on the sizes and see which feels more comfortable. Remember that your breasts will probably get bigger after you have had your baby and started feeding so try to take this into consideration if you are buying in advance; it is advisable to leave it as late as possible to buy nursing bras, as this will ensure the best possible fit. Go for a style which feels comfortable and make sure it gives you plenty of support without digging into your ribs or your skin; there will usually be staff around to help you if you are struggling.
