Q9. Does marijuana cause cancer?

A9. Some studies point to a link between marijuana and head or neck cancer but this is unproven.

There is a possible risk of cancer if marijuana is combined with tobacco and smoked as this contains chemicals, toxins and substances known as carcinogens. These carcinogens increase the risk of cancer.

But it is difficult to ascertain if lung cancer is caused by smoking marijuana, tobacco only or marijuana only.

There may be other factors to consider.

Smoking can cause cancer but more research is needed to see if there is a link between this and marijuana.
