Obesity - Causes of Female Infertility
This has become a major problem in regard to the effect it has upon health, lifestyle and fertility. We know that being obese can cause a whole range of problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and some cancers but infertility is now added to this group.
Excessive weight gain is also one aspect of polycystic ovarian syndrome (POS) which is the most common cause of female infertility. It can also increase the risk of a miscarriage and reduce the success of any fertility treatments.
A multi-disciplinary approach to this problem is needed which includes advice about diet, exercise and behaviour.
