What is ‘Retrograde Ejaculation?’
This is a relatively common condition in which semen flows into the bladder rather than leaving the body via the penis.
There are a set of vales within the male body which control the flow of urine through the urethra or semen via the vas deferens. If this is functioning normally then the valve between the bladder and urethra closes during ejaculation or the valve between the vas deferens and the urethra shuts during urination.
So these valves control both the flow of semen and urine through the urethra.
But these valves can be damaged which means that semen flows back into the bladder instead of entering the penis.
It can be caused by prostate surgery, cancer, diabetes and multiple sclerosis.
Treatment involves administering antihistamine drugs to tighten the opening to the bladder. This will prevent semen from flowing into the bladder.
