Do some types of contraception increase your risk of becoming infertile?
Some types of contraception affect fertility more than others and may lead to infertility. In the latter case these are vasectomy and tubal ligation (tying off the fallopian tubes) which can lead to infertility although there are options for reversal.
So think carefully when choosing your form of contraception.
Others such as the contraceptive pill, condoms or hormonal patches tend to work on a temporary basis only. Once you stop taking them fertility usually returns to normal although how long this takes varies from one individual to the next.
