Fertility funding and your Primary Care Trust (PCT)
Funding for fertility treatment is made by your Primary Care Trust (PCT) who decides upon the number of cycles of treatment they will offer. If they have ample funding then they may pay for the full 3 cycles: but if funding is limited then they may only pay for 2 cycles or even just the one cycle.
And unfortunately, there are a few PCT’s who won’t pay for any cycles of treatment.
However, the Department of Health is recommending that all PCT’s offer the full 3 cycles of IVF treatment as per NICE guidelines. But this is a long term view.
Basically, your PCT will ‘sponsor’ you to receive free IVF treatment.
