Q17. What is a ‘hair graft?’
A17. This is the strip or follicular unit which is taken from your donor site (back of your head) and transplanted into the recipient site (bald area of your scalp).
There is more than one type of hair graft although the follicular unit is the most popular. Other grafts include the micrograft and the minigraft.
A donor strip is a thin sliver of skin which contains numerous hair follicles. This is removed from the donor site and the follicles are then dissected under a microscope. These follicles are then inserted into small incisions made in the recipient area of the scalp.
