Does stress cause your hair to fall out?
Yes it can. If you are under a great deal of pressure at work or have a stressful life at present then the effects of this will be felt in your hair.
Excessive stress causes your body to release stress hormones, e.g. cortisol which impact upon many areas of your body including your hair. These hormones send a signal to the hair follicles which causes them to stop producing hair. Your hair undergoes the resting and shedding phases as normal but no new hair is grown which leads to a thinning of your hair and eventual loss.
This type of hair loss is usually temporary: once the cause of your stress is removed your hair cycle will function as normal.
