Q22. Can women get high blood pressure?
A22 . Yes. Many people assume that it tends to affect men only but women are also prone to high blood pressure.
Women are at less risk of developing this below the age of 45 but this changes once they reach the menopause. This risk then evens out for both sexes. But it increases in women once they are past the menopause.
Women are then at greater risk than men of developing high blood pressure in their late fifties onwards.
