Diagnosing muscular dystrophy
There are a variety of different tests which can be used to diagnose muscular dystrophy; some children who develop symptoms from an early age will be tested very early on and doctors may be keen to discuss family history and take blood tests. Muscle biopsies can also be used, as well as MRI scans and specific tests which are used to investigate particular symptoms, such as echocardiograms to test for heart problems.
