Q16. What are anti-TNF drugs?

A16. This group of drugs is classed as ‘biological drugs’ and work by preventing a chemical known as ‘tumour necrosis factor’ from increasing inflammation and tissue damage in the body.

This chemical has been identified as a major factor in certain types of arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis.

These are often taken in combination with a disease modifying drug such as methotrexate.

Find out more about these drugs in our medication for arthritis section.
