What are some signs and symptoms of pellagra?
Pellagra is characterised by the 4 Ds:
- Diarrhoea
- Dermatitis (this can be exacerbated by sunlight)
- Dementia
- Death (this can happen within 4 or 5 years)
There may be other symptoms, such as muscle weakness, tongue swelling, nausea and vomiting, and heart problems as well. People with pellagra may be annoyed by bright lights too.
