What is perennial allergic rhinitis?
Hay fever is a seasonal allergic rhinitis, meaning it only affects people during a particular season. Perennial allergic rhinitis affects people all year round. The most common allergen that can cause perennial allergic rhinitis is house dust mite faeces. House dust mites normally die in the winter, but nowadays, central heating systems in houses, along with upholstery and pile fabrics have made a nice environment for them all year round. Signs and symptoms are those of hay fever, but lasting all year round.
Treatment for perennial allergic rhinitis is similar to that of hay fever. It is important to wash fabrics in the house too. Vacuum carpets regularly, and make sure to dust and clean surfaces like curtains or sofas.
