Is there a cure for hay fever?
Desensitisation therapy or immunotherapy are two terms describing a treatment plan where small amounts of pollen are introduced to your body to try desensitise your immune system to pollen. You will have to come in for many injections, and the treatment can last a few years. Each injection will have a slightly higher amount of pollen, until your immune system does not react to it at all. It should be done in consultation and under supervision by your doctor.
Desensitisation therapy might sound like an amazing idea, but it is difficult to keep getting injections regularly for many years, and it does not have a 100% success rate either. If you have severe hay fever, introducing a small amount of pollen into your body might cause a very severe reaction. It can be considered as an option if your hay fever interferes significantly with your daily life.
