What is discoid eczema?
Discoid eczema gets its name from the shape of the lesions in the rash – they are coin shaped. These lesions typically affect the lower limbs of young men, and can also occur in the elderly and in children. In young men, it is associated with alcohol excess. In children it is associated with atopic eczema.
Discoid eczema can be made worse by drying of the skin. As a result, it is often worse in winter. Stress and caffeine can also make it worse.
