Q14. What is sclerotherapy?
A14. This is an often performed treatment for small to medium sized varicose veins.
It basically involves the injection of a chemical - either liquid or foam into the damaged vein. This causes the vein to harden and scar tissue to develop which then shuts down this vein.
This treated vein starts to fade and eventually disappears. This does not affect your circulation as the blood flow is redirected into healthy veins.
This is another treatment which is carried out under a local anaesthetic.
