Q12. Can you prevent thread veins?

A12. You can reduce your risk of developing these by a few simple changes to your lifestyle. This means maintaining a healthy weight or taking steps to reduce your weight if obese/overweight.

Avoid sitting with your ankles crossed and get up and walk around several times in a day.

If you are employed in a capacity where you are stood on your feet all day then sit down whenever you have a break (if possible) and shift your weight from one foot to the other.

Walk around at intervals to keep your circulation going.

Consider an exercise such as yoga which requires you to perform a range of movements, some of which are inverted thereby enabling your blood supply to move from your legs up towards your heart.

These are covered in more detail in our preventing thread veins section.
