Obagi Skin Peel - Blue Peel
An Obagi Skin Peel is a form of skin treatment that is used to create healthier and more attractive looking skin. Unlike some skin treatment procedures, the Obagi Skin Peel can be used to help people of all skin types and colors achieve more beautiful skin. In addition, the procedure may be used on areas other than the face, including the chest, neck, back, hands, legs and arms.
Understanding the Obagi Skin Peel
The Obagi Skin Peel improves the appearance of the skin by removing thin layers of skin from the face or other parts of the body. By removing the top layers of skin, skin that has become aged or damaged by acne or environmental factors is removed. This exposes the younger, more attractive skin that is located beneath. Some of the blemishes that can be addressed with the Obagi Skin Peel include age spots, fine lines, acne scars, wrinkles, large pores and oily skin.
When treating the skin with an Obagi Skin Peel, the surgeon applies a special solution to the area that is to be treated. The solution remains in place for only two to three months, during which time the patient experiences a burning sensation. The entire treatment process generally takes about twenty minutes to complete, though the treatment process may take longer depending upon the number of layers that need to be removed and the size of the area being treated. It takes about two weeks for most patients to fully recover from the procedure.
Risks Associated with the Obagi Skin Care Procedure
Since the Obagi Skin Care procedure is not invasive, patients do not experience the same risks that are associated with most other cosmetic procedures. Nonetheless, there are some potential risks and complications associated with the procedure that need to be considered when deciding if the procedure is right for you. Some of these include:
- A bluish tint may appear on the skin following the procedure, but should wash away within one or two days following the procedure
- Peeling of the skin, which may continue for several days following the procedure
- Redness of the skin, which may last for several days until the skin has healed completely
It should also be noted that there is some discomfort during the procedure and that patients may experience continued discomfort afterward as the skin heals and repairs itself.
