How do I find a reputable breast lift surgeon?
This is the most important part of the process. You are placing your trust, and, your life, in this person’s hands. You want the safest and best results from this surgery. So, spend some time looking for a surgeon.
There are several ways of doing this. You can ask your GP to refer you to a surgeon; you can speak to other people who have had this surgery; you can contact respected organisations such as the GMC or BAAPS/BAPRAS. Another good organisation is The British Association of Cosmetic Surgeons.
There are many web sites which contain useful information about finding a surgeon. For example, Cosmetic Surgery Consultants has a list of guidelines on choosing a surgeon. Private Healthcare UK and the Consulting Room are two other equally helpful sites. You will also find that some cosmetic surgeons have their own personal websites. Cosmetic Surgeon (www.cosmeticsurgeon.co.uk) contains the details of five featured surgeons who each have their own website.
As this is one of the biggest decisions you will ever make it is important that you are fully informed and are happy with your choice of surgeon. Unfortunately, anyone can set themselves up as a cosmetic surgeon so it is best to have a set of ready prepared questions to ask your surgeon. Draw up a shortlist of surgeons and contact each of them in turn. You will be asked to go along for an initial consultation and when you do, make sure you see the surgeon, not a nurse, counsellor or salesperson!
You can always choose to go abroad for your surgery. When looking for a surgeon do your homework carefully. Apply the same rules in much the same way as if you were choosing a UK based surgeon. You need to be sure that your surgeon is qualified and reputable. Check to see if he/she is registered with a professional organisation which is similar to BAAPS or BAPRAS. And, check that he/she is available before, during and after your surgery.
