Q1. What is perio protect?

A1. Perio protect is a new form of treatment for periodontal gum disease. It can be used at home and is a straightforward solution to the problem of bacterial infection in the gums.

It involves the patient wearing a set of specially customised 'trays': these look similar to mouthshields worn by athletes which contain an antibacterial medication.

These trays are worn over the teeth and enable the medication contained within to flow into the infected areas. This medication treats any infection and/or wounds in the gums as well as preventing any further build up of infection.

The patient wears these trays for a designated period of time (as agreed by their dentist).
