Alli side effects
Alli is a weight loss pill which has been designed to aid with weight loss in conjunction with a diet and exercise support programme. This programme is an effective means of losing weight as long as you adhere to a low fat, reduced calorie diet. But if you consume too much fat in any of your meals then you increase your chances of diet-related side effects. These side effects are not dangerous or likely to cause long term problems but they are unpleasant. Diet related effects include:
- Oily or fatty bowel movements
- Sudden urge to visit the bathroom
- Loose stools
- Flatulence with or without an oily discharge
- Abdominal pain
- Vitamin deficiencies
All drugs come with side effects and alli is no different. However, if you use alli correctly and follow the instructions provided then you should not experience any of these effects.
In the case of vitamin deficiencies, taking a multivitamin supplement last thing at night will prevent this from happening.
What causes these side effects?
Alli works by preventing some of the fat within food from being broken down and absorbed by your body. This undigested fat is then excreted out of your body in your stools.
These changes to your bowel movements occur each time you take an alli capsule –at mealtimes. These side effects are extra undigested fat which is a by product of the alli capsules. If you experience this then view it as an indication that you have consumed too much fat in your previous meal. These changes are not dramatic or liable to impact upon your life in any way as long as you stick to the alli diet plan. But if you have a high fat meal or snack then these are likely to happen. So, try to avoid having too much fat in your diet.
A positive way of approaching this is to think about the benefits to your health (as well as losing weight) by reducing the amount of fat in your diet. We all need to look at the amount of fat within our diets and many of us consume too much at times. In one sense the alli weight loss programme forces you to eat low fat foods rather than suffer any embarrassing side effects. This encourages healthy eating habits which will hopefully be permanent. If you are concerned about these side effects then speak to your GP or pharmacist before taking alli.
It is important to note that alli is not designed as a long term solution for weight loss. It is meant to be used for a short period of time only. You need to follow a healthy diet and exercise plan whilst using alli and continue with this afterwards. This is the only way you will maintain a healthy weight.
